1. What is your age (not required)
19

2. What is your gender (not required)
Male

3. Roughly how many other MMORPG’s or ORPG’s had you played before starting Guild Wars?
0

4. Why do you feel Guild Wars is worth your time over other MMORPG’s? (if you don’t feel it is worth your time explain why)
It's cheaper. I also found it easier to get into.

5. How was the learning curve of the game for you?
Reasonable and challenging

6. What game mechanics of Guild Wars draws you to play it?
Most things. Titles are what keep me coming back. I also find PvP quite fun.

7. What aspect do you enjoy the most (PvP, Quests, Guild socializing, Solo play, trading, other: specify)?
PvP but, weirdly, I also play it the least.

8. Only answer this question in relation to Guild Wars: Factions.
Out of 5 (1 being not at all and 5 being very important) How important is the narrative (storyline) for your enjoyment of the game?
I have completed it but I only completed it for the sake of completing it, not really for the enjoyment so my answer might not be valid. I don't pay much attention to the storyline, so it contributes 1/5 to it, I guess. However I wish I had paid attention to all storylines, and I do enjoy it more if I get into the storyline.

9. What are the main emotions you are aware of feeling when playing the game?
anticipation

10. Has Guild Wars affected your life in anyways beyond the scope of the game? How?
I guess there are some times I may have otherwise spent revising for exams but I still acheive good grades, so I wouldn't say much.

My answers are in the quote below the question.

2-3
4. Why do you feel Guild Wars is worth your time over other MMORPG’s? (if you don’t feel it is worth your time explain why)
It has no monthly fee and I love playing the game!
5. How was the learning curve of the game for you?
It was just right. I actually miss the time when I first started playing and knew nothing. It took forever to learn all the ins and outs of the game, and to be honest, I'm still learning things 4 years later.
6. What game mechanics of Guild Wars draws you to play it?
I could play solo (with NPCs) or with friends. I didn't HAVE to find a group of 7 other people to play the game.
7. What aspect do you enjoy the most (PvP, Quests, Guild socializing, Solo play, trading, other: specify)?
Quests, definitely. I love learning about the lore of the game.
8. Only answer this question in relation to Guild Wars: Factions.
Out of 5 (1 being not at all and 5 being very important) How important is the narrative (storyline) for your enjoyment of the game?
Probably a 2. Not so important in Factions. It's a good story, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely not my favorite story. It's very short and the storyline doesn't really take you to that many different areas (An island [native characters only] > The city > Forest or Sea > City.)
9. What are the main emotions you are aware of feeling when playing the game?
Happiness and aggravation.
10. Has Guild Wars affected your life in anyways beyond the scope of the game? How?
I met my boyfriend on Guild Wars last year and we've been living together now for the past 7 months. Best thing to happen to me, honestly.

1. What is your age (not required)

20

2. What is your gender (not required)

Male

3. Roughly how many other MMORPG’s or ORPG’s had you played before starting Guild Wars?

None. Guild Wars attracted me because of its lack of monthly fees.

4. Why do you feel Guild Wars is worth your time over other MMORPG’s? (if you don’t feel it is worth your time explain why)

I feel it's a much more strategic and balanced game than any other RPG I have ever played.

5. How was the learning curve of the game for you?

It was medium, not too hard and not too easy. The fact that successful builds were available on the forums and websites made it easier for me to understand what I should be doing.

6. What game mechanics of Guild Wars draws you to play it?

I like that I'm forced to pick 8 skills from over 100 available skills, the low level cap of 20, the fact that I can change my secondary profession and attributes freely, the fact that you can teleport to any outpost you've already visited, and the combat system in general.

7. What aspect do you enjoy the most (PvP, Quests, Guild socializing, Solo play, trading, other: specify)?

I enjoy low-end PvP, such as Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry, and high-end PvE either alone or with friends. And, when I'm with friends, I enjoy both casual / balanced runs and speed-clears. I specifically do NOT enjoy high-end PvP, solo farming (even though I do it when I really want something), nor trading.

8. Only answer this question in relation to Guild Wars: Factions.
Out of 5 (1 being not at all and 5 being very important) How important is the narrative (storyline) for your enjoyment of the game?

2. I liked the story but if, for some reason, there was no real story I'd still enjoy Factions quite the same.

9. What are the main emotions you are aware of feeling when playing the game?

When I'm alone I'm generally happy when I kill something difficult and frustrated when I fail. I'm also very happy when I buy something, like a new armor or weapon, or if I get a really good drop. But, if I'm with a friend(s), I'm more nervous and careful because I really don't want to fail (especially if we're doing a speed-clear).

10. Has Guild Wars affected your life in anyways beyond the scope of the game? How?

Guild Wars has helped me deal with a variety of issues that can only be fixed with time. Some people don't think it's healthy to use an avoidance mechanism but, in my opinion, Guild Wars has made my adolescent life a lot more bearable and, as I'm maturing and building a happier life for myself, I find I need it less and less over time.

One. But I have played quite a number since then.

4. Why do you feel Guild Wars is worth your time over other MMORPG’s? (if you don’t feel it is worth your time explain why)
Because it's a better game. The only problem is after 2 or more years of mainly playing one game you end up wanting to try something different just to shake things up. I have been playing GW for 5 years now and it has thus far almost always been the main game that I play.

Quote:
5. How was the learning curve of the game for you?
For me it was just right. Make an RPG too simple and you may as well be playing an FPS or hack'n'slash.

Quote:
6. What game mechanics of Guild Wars draws you to play it?
The wide range of abilities and diversity of those abilities trumps what you see in the other games. Top that off Arenanet manages to keep GW as one of the most balanced games out there in spite of it. In this way GW1 was a shot to the arm to the competition. Here's hoping that GW2 ends up being a metaphorical bullet in the ass.

Quote:
7. What aspect do you enjoy the most (PvP, Quests, Guild socializing, Solo play, trading, other: specify)?
It used to be PvP. Now I seem to of taken more to PvE but that is due to me becoming a bit of an achievement seeker. I have all of the GW2 unlockable items now so I figure I'll probably end up going back to PvP.

4. You can get the same info from normal quests but having an actual narrative helps to set the mood in some ways.

Quote:
9. What are the main emotions you are aware of feeling when playing the game?
Hm.....does interest count as an emotion? Because that is honestly all I have felt. An interest to see what happens next or what I can get.

10. Has Guild Wars affected your life in anyways beyond the scope of the game? How?
Well, after I got to the point that GW was completely boring me because I had been playing it extensively for almost a half decade(now it has been a half decade) the other games I found just couldn't cut it. I still play them but they don't have the character setup diversity and all that GW has. I wound up deciding to work with a few friends on creating my own game. So in a way GW is a big part of the reason I wound up working on making my own tabletop RPG.

Nath
1: 20

2: Male

3: Probably around 15-16

4: It is free so that is a main reason I play. I enjoy the PvP system in it over other games like WoW. I really enjoy the storyline as well. Mainly play now because I am waiting for GW2

5: I caught on really quickly. I started when the game came out and so more people were working together to figure things out.

6: Honestly, I think the mechanics are pretty poor compared to other games that are out now. However, due to its age that is an understanding. I play it mainly because I have so much time invested and I enjoy the friends I have made in the game.

7:A toss of of PvP or Trading

8:3 because without the storyline the whole luxon vs kurz thing is useless and AB becomes pointless.

9:I am happy because I enjoy the game however, I also get frustrated at people in the game as well. Usually when they are having a political or religious debate in town/guild chat/alliance chat.

10: My GF started to play so I don't want to say it brought us closer but it gave us something to do together.

Id like to point out this is a great example of internet safety, no names first or last a state not city or gosh forbid address no school's names or anything pretty you've said so much about yourself without telling anyone with malicious intent anything they can use.

Because I've posted twice now i figure i might as well help out with your survey.

1) 15
2) *checks* yes i'm male
3)none but i play WoW occasionally while playing gw.
4)Its been a part of my life since i was 10 and it was always a friend.
5)Proph was difficult at first but once i got the hang of it the learning curve sped up.
6)The style of Pvp how you cant just kill any innocent person walking through the Gtob (the structure really), Pve it has to be the lore.
7)the battles
8)5
9)excitement (when i get something cool ), joy (when i beat something hard), and wonder (whats going to happen next)\
10) Up until recently guildwars has effected nothing but now i play from when i get home till 3 am so i get no study time or homework done lol

1. What is your age (not required)

36

2. What is your gender (not required)

Female

3. Roughly how many other MMORPG’s or ORPG’s had you played before starting Guild Wars?

First one

4. Why do you feel Guild Wars is worth your time over other MMORPG’s? (if you don’t feel it is worth your time explain why)

As stated in a previous post, it has no monthly subscription fee. I like that.

5. How was the learning curve of the game for you?

I'm still learning :P. It wasn't too bad especially with the ability to ask questions in the guild, or local, team chats.

6. What game mechanics of Guild Wars draws you to play it?

The fact that you can play with other people besides the computer. Trying to come up with a build that works without it being used by everybody else in the game.

7. What aspect do you enjoy the most (PvP, Quests, Guild socializing, Solo play, trading, other: specify)?

I really enjoy the dungeons and elite areas. Specifically UW, and DoA would be my second favorite. Haven't done a lot of PvP unless you count AB and JQ for Kurzick title.

8. Only answer this question in relation to Guild Wars: Factions.
Out of 5 (1 being not at all and 5 being very important) How important is the narrative (storyline) for your enjoyment of the game?

I can barely remember the storyline, I skip through all the cutscenes now or step away if someone hasn't skipped them. 3 years playing, and a bad memory, I've forgotten what the story is all about. Maybe I even tuned it out when I played through the first time.

9. What are the main emotions you are aware of feeling when playing the game?

Depends, cause I've gotten pretty pissed off at people but I have also had very enjoyable hours where I haven't wanted to log off.

10. Has Guild Wars affected your life in anyways beyond the scope of the game? How?

For this answer if you truly want it, you can request it through a PM.

Well, time for me to return the favor!

1: 26
2: M
3: Just "The 4th Coming" in its early ages.
4: Because I don't have to pay a monthly fee, so I can be the "happy casual player", just logging on once or twice per month and still having fun. I love the absence of the "god vs. frog" syndrome this game has: you can enter random PvP arenas and be competitive even if you are not hardcore.
5: Natural, I would say. Never too steep, but neverending. I still feel like there's some more effective skill combo for my necro out there.
6: According to Richard Bartle... I'm an explorer. That's why I love this game so much. I've been constantly modifying my builds in order to face PvE and PvP challenges more effectively, and I had a lot of fun just in doing it, even when they were total crap - suffice to say, in PvE I'm a necro/warrior and I fight in meele. xD
7: PvP. Then, guild play.
8 -
9: Curiosity, for the story and for the game world. Once the campaign is over, "Agon".
10: No.

Good luck with the paper... to both of us

4. Why do you feel Guild Wars is worth your time over other MMORPG’s? (if you don’t feel it is worth your time explain why)

I like the graphics - I can make a visually appealing character and play in a beautiful setting. I like the skills/builds - there's not just one set skill path to follow as your character advances, you can pick and choose as you please and change it as often as you like. I like that you can play on your own or with other people and achieve what you set out to do either way. I like the playtime flexibility - you can play for a short amount of time and still achieve something, and you can stop playing for months and come back and not be behind the gear/level curve. I like the lack of grind (less true than it used to be) - it doesn't take much time or effort to have a character that's capable of doing pretty much anything that's available in the game. Other games that I've tried since fall down on one or more of these points.

5. How was the learning curve of the game for you?

Just right I guess. I got stuck a few times my first time through, but figured out the solutions sooner or later. I felt like I was learning something new and getting better at the game every day for many months.

6. What game mechanics of Guild Wars draws you to play it?

Nowadays it's the build flexibility and the ease of character development. Originally it was the instanced explorables/missions.

7. What aspect do you enjoy the most (PvP, Quests, Guild socializing, Solo play, trading, other: specify)?

Quests + guild socialising. I like playing through the game rather than farming or whatever, and I prefer to have people to play with and talk to while I'm doing it.

8. Only answer this question in relation to Guild Wars: Factions.

9. What are the main emotions you are aware of feeling when playing the game?

Satisfaction, frustration. (When PvPing - anger, so I don't PvP so much any more. )

10. Has Guild Wars affected your life in anyways beyond the scope of the game? How?

It's given me some online friends but not done my social life irl any favours, it helped me stay sane during a bad patch in my marriage, and my house is a lot more messy than it could be as playing GW is much more enjoyable than doing housework.
Answers below questions in quote above. Good luck with the presentation!

18

2. What is your gender (not required)

3. Roughly how many other MMORPG’s or ORPG’s had you played before starting Guild Wars?
I did not play any other Onlinge games before Guild Wars. Guild Wars was my first.

4. Why do you feel Guild Wars is worth your time over other MMORPG’s? (if you don’t feel it is worth your time explain why)
Because I am addicted. But also because I have accomplished so much in it. But even though, I still play AION sometimes on the side.

5. How was the learning curve of the game for you?
I did not learn anything before later, when I started to get an interest in the game. Before this I used it as a chatting program. (Personal reasons)

6. What game mechanics of Guild Wars draws you to play it?
Build Making, I would say.

7. What aspect do you enjoy the most (PvP, Quests, Guild socializing, Solo play, trading, other: specify)?
PvP and high end PvE.

8. Only answer this question in relation to Guild Wars: Factions.

5 - Very Important

9. What are the main emotions you are aware of feeling when playing the game?
Good question. It can be anger if I can't make things work, or joy, the feeling of having fun when I accomplish something, buy something or spend time with my boyfriend on it.

10. Has Guild Wars affected your life in anyways beyond the scope of the game? How?
Yes. I met my boyfriend through Guild Wars.

1. 21

2. Male

3. None, GW is my first MMO experience.

4. Because it was a new and exciting experience as it was my first mmo. Money also played a factor as my financial situation was tight at one point, so the no monthly fee was a big lightbulb for me so to speak. Years later I still have stuff to do, therefore never find it boring, but also never feel like I have to log on, on a daily basis. The key to managing your addiction is to set long term realistic goals.

5. I had to figure out most of the stuff myself, but I am dedicated, so within a short while I had figured it out more or less through trial and error. However in my younger days when new expansions would come out *factions* I found myself reluctant to try it as it was beyond my "comfort zone".

6. No monthly fee (if that counts)
The seemingly endless amount of things you could accomplish/earn in the game
Friends who have since long quit
Reluctance to pay for wow since I was not interested in the fantasy graphics and never grew up on warcraft. I'm a duke nukem kinda guy.

7. I used to enjoy High end PvP, but after many a migraine from leaders that were for lack of a better phrase..less mature than myself, I swore it off. Now I enjoy High end relaxed Pve and helping others, aswell as spending time with my girl.

8. I would give it a 5, what use is it for you to play an MMO or any game for that matter that doesn't emerge you in it's world. We play games to escape from our reality for a little while, so a storyline to me is very important as it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I finish it.

9. 99% of the time it is Joy, Laughter and Love (when I'm playing with my girl). The remaing 1% is a mix of relaxation and in rare cases frustration when I meet some punk that doesn't know how to hold their tounge.

10. Yes it has, I met the love of my life through Guild Wars.

P.S. Hi Baby <3
